RF20A
Solar remote · no battery
A battery-free concept: solar charging, 10 mm thin.
What this platform is for
RF20A is a battery-free concept. A solar panel under the key area keeps the cell charged, with RF, IR, BLE and voice on board. At 10 mm it is the thinnest design in the line.
It is shown as a concept, not a shipping SKU. The point is the question behind it: can a handset stop asking the user to find AAA batteries? That question is worth asking before the next program.
Radio and interaction
- Solar charging under the key area; no battery compartment.
- RF, IR and BLE with voice input on board.
- Concept status: a design direction, not a shipping SKU.
What can change per program
- Solar — the panel area is fixed by the housing; charge behaviour and low-power policy are firmware.
- Key map — key count, legend, and the functions behind each key are defined per program.
- Firmware — a configured build for your platform, or a BSP and driver layer for your own application team.
- Appearance — logo, silkscreen, paint, plating or texture, and the retail packaging.
- Certification — CE, FCC, UKCA, KCC or TELEC are scoped to the final configuration and market.
Ranges are platform values for the reference build. The figure that applies to your product is confirmed on the test line and written into the datasheet.

Program
From this platform to your product.
Four steps, the same for every model. Durations depend on how far the key map and housing move from the baseline.
Scope
Key map, radio set, market and certification. This is where a datasheet gets specific.
Sample
A unit built to the agreed configuration, so the hand feel and the key layout can be judged on a desk.
Validation
Range, key life, drop and cleaning checks, plus an EMC pre-scan before the certification lab.
Production
Test specification, fixtures and packaging, released with the approved specification.
The stage-by-stage sequence is set out in Prototype to Production.
